The original scan confirms the corrected reference; the old form was a transcription error.
Source audit · 29 October 2026
The original scans resolve five transcription mistakes among the 21 previously unavailable subvariant references. The other sixteen references are already invalid in the 1928 printing. Their repaired links are marked as editorial decisions in the readers and generated outlines.
Editorial entries record this edition’s interpretation of broken printed links. Ten normalize an absent suffix to the existing unlettered conflict; six use contextual or numbered-example interpretations. Each records the printed form, the chosen reference, and the evidence. The book’s 1,852 existing variants remain intact.
The ledger also retains the three transcription corrections from the initial app release. Reference spellings below use the original-role edition; both editions apply the same repairs. Scan page numbers refer to the printed pages.
Download the correction ledger (JSON). Scan checksums identify the inspected JPEGs; the source links open the original book.

Printed reference: 146a, c
This edition: 1461a, c
Page 18 prints 146a, c, but page 36 has only an unlettered 146 about captivity. This edition restores the likely omitted final 1: 1461a and 1461c concern confession and revelation of identity, matching the poor clerk posing as wealthy in 2a. The adjacent carry-on already names 1461a with A changed to B. This is a contextual editorial inference; the scan does not confirm the author’s intended number.

This edition: 1267a
Page 29 prints 1267d. Pages 161–162 contain only 1267a–c; the next conflict is 1268, so no d text can be recovered. This edition selects 1267a, the existing trap situation that fits the rival’s attempt to eliminate A. The other two variants concern a captive miser and a dying person’s will. This is an editorial choice, not a recovered variant d.

This edition: 966-3
Page 90 prints 959; 966c. Page 127 divides conflict 966 into numbered examples, not lettered variants; example [3] concerns scientific attempts to override heredity. This edition interprets c as the third example and uses the book’s numbered-reference notation, 966-3, for the scientific-experiment lead-up. This is an editorial inference.
